چکیده

FRANCIS A. ROESCH, JR. EDWIN J. GREEN CHARLES T. SCOTT Compatible groups of estimators for total value at time 1 (VI), survivor growth (S), and ingrowth (I) for use with permanent horizontal point samples are evaluated for the special cases of estimating the change in both the number of trees and basal area. Caveats which should be observed before any one compatible grouping of estimators is chosen for a particular application are given. FOR. SCI. 37(1):136-145. ADDITIONAL

Basal Area Growth Estimators for Survivor Component: A Quality Control Application

Several possible estimators are available for basal area growth of survivor trees, when horizontal prism (or point) plots (HPP) are remeasured. This study’s comparison of three estimators not only provides a check f o r the estimate of basal area growth but suggests that they can provide a quality control indicator for yield procedures. An example is derived from remeasurements in Alabama for t...

New Compatible Estimators for Survivor Growth and Ingrowth from Remeasured Horizontal Point Samples

Forest volume growth between two measurements is often decomposed into the components of survivor growth (S), ingrowth (Z), mortality (M), and cut (C) (for example, Beers 1962 or Van Deusen et al. 1986). Net change between volumes at times 1 and 2 (V, V,) is then represented by the equation

Relative Efficiency of Point Sampling Change Estimators

Concerns about the efficiency and the reliability of point sampling to estimate change in forest growth variables have been expressed ever since point sampling appeared in the literature more than 60 years ago. Change estimators for point samples based on point-to-tree distance in variable-radius plots were introduced about 30 years ago but are rarely implemented despite easy access to point-to...

A General Dynamic Function for the Basal Area of Individual Trees Derived from a Production Theoretically Motivated Autonomous Differential Equation

The management of forests may be motivated from production economic and environmental perspectives. The dynamically changing properties of trees affect environmental objectives and values of trees as raw material in the construction sector and in the energy sector. In order to optimize the management of forests, it is necessary to have access to reliable functions that predict how trees develop...

A Study on the Accuracy and Precision of Estimation of the Number, Basal Area and Standing Trees Volume per Hectare Using of some Sampling Methods in Forests of NavAsalem

The present study aimed to investigate the accuracy and precision estimation of the number, basal area and volume of the standing trees by methods of random and systematic random sampling in the forests of West Guilan. The cost or inventory time was determined using the criteria (E%2 × T). Inventory was carried out by complete sampling (census) in an area of 52 hectares. The study area (sect...
